2019 Race Recap

Good morning everyone!

Thank you to all runners, volunteers, family, crew and pacers for such a wonderful weekend! You all (and the tropical storm) really made this a memorable experience for us and we appreciate it!

Before going any further, we must mention the people who actually make this event possible...... our volunteers. Thank you so much for taking such great care of our runners! We were blown away by your hard work, care and compassion and are forever thankful for your contributions. Uwharrie 100 exists because of you and we can't thank you all enough.

122 brave souls toed the line this year at the 2019 Uwharrie 100 and Uwharrie Gold Rush 50k. These runners inspired us as we watched them give everything they had on those trails; their joy; their passion; their pain; their triumph. Not all runners walked away with a medal or buckle, but that doesn't lessen their accomplishments or efforts this weekend.

Only 41.30% of 100 Mile runners went home with a buckle this weekend, 83.33% of 100K runners went home with a medal and 95% of 50K runners went home with a medal. This drop in finisher rate for the longer duration races had a strong correlation to the havoc Tropical Storm Nestor caused out on the course as the race continued.

Regardless of if you received a buckle, medal, or nothing at all, we hope you walked away with an extreme amount of accomplishment and pride for the amount of blood, sweat and tears you poured into that course this weekend!

Race results are available online at https://my2.raceresult.com/140197/?lang=en. You can click your name to see lap times, split times and words of encouragement that were sent to you during the race.  Results will also be posted to UltraSignup shortly (hopefully today).

We've posted a ton of great pictures from our volunteer photographers on Facebook and are available at the following links.  You do not need a Facebook account to view these and you can download these pictures and share if you would like:

Our next big event will be the URE Marathon on March 14, 2020 which is our free marathon that is run on the same course as the 100/50K.  Registration for this event will open on December 1st on UltraSignup.  This is a fully supported marathon and sports a generous 10 hour cutoff.  Its also a great opportunity for volunteers and crew to check out the course.  We use this marathon as kind of an informal kickoff to our training season for 2020 and put on fully supported free monthly training runs each month after the marathon going through October.  These training runs are open to all runners and are designed just to get people together to share some miles on the great trails out at Uwharrie.

That's it for now, we appreciate everyone's contributions to the race this year.  You really made this an extremely enjoyable and rewarding event for us, our family, and all involved with the race.  Hope to see you out on the trails sometime in the future!

Take care,

Dan and Amanda Paige
