“Simply Unrelenting”

Uwharrie 100 began nearly 10 years ago, when a group of visionary trail runners in the Central NC area decided to hold an event on their “normal” 20-ish mile training loop. This unassuming 20.5 mile figure-eight climbs ~3,800 - 4000 feet per loop, totaling 19,000 feet of elevation gain during the 102.5 mile tour of the Uwharrie Mountains. Even though the course doesn’t boast massive mountain-top views, or 4000 foot climbs and descents like its western NC cousins, it possesses its own “Simply Unrelenting” personality.

The Uwharrie 100 loop is nearly 100% single track; (save 4 forest road crossings 15 feet wide, and a 200 foot long gravel parking lot which starts and ends each loop) meaning there is little to no mental reprieve as the hours and miles tick by. The terrain is classic NC technical, with roots and rocks and boulders which threaten every step.

There’s much more to the story, however. Uwharrie 100 is also known as one of the “best supported hundreds” anywhere. Year after year we are humbled to hear the feedback from our runners, praising the quality of food (everything from porter braised flank steak, shrimp and grits, traditional 16 hour smoked pork shoulder made right on course, as well as all of the traditional aid you can imagine) but also the “unrelenting support” of our volunteers and the countless selfless acts of kindness they perform to ensure runners meet their goals.

Think you have what it takes to conquer 102.5 miles of this Simply Unrelenting terrain? Registration opens January 1, 2024!
